XXVIII: Glance

Glance out at the splendour of the Earth,
And then sing, sing,
Sing!
For the fresh winds, and the smell of pine,
Sing!

Glance in at the warmth of your fireside,
And then sing, sing,
Sing!
For your soft rugs and the taste of wine,
Sing!

Glance across at the beauty of your wife,
And then sing, sing,
Sing!
For her gentle eyes and hair so fine,
Sing!

  1. Another excellent poem. The line about the fresh winds and the smell of pine amused me, since I've been struggling all day to stay away from the pine pollen that fumigates our area once each year and provokes my allergy. For about 50 or 51 weeks a year, I love the pines. Thanks for the reminder that even today I should thank God for them.

  2. thanks, jim, and sorry to remind you of your allergy! I don't actually have any pines where I live - I was just looking for something to rhyme with "wine" and "fine" on the 'D' lines. But I do get hayfever in the Summer, so I know how you must feel.
